Living heritage
The cultural heritage of Lekenik has been shaped by centuries of people living alongside nature in Turopolje, Posavina and Pokuplje. Preserved traditional architecture, wooden chapels, ethnographic collections, film heritage and a lively folklore scene all bear witness to the identity and history of the area.
Traditional wooden čardak houses, ethnographic collections and religious buildings form a valuable part of Lekenik's cultural heritage – above all the wooden chapels from the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries. One of the best-known examples is St. Martin's Chapel in Stari Brod, winner of the prestigious Europa Nostra Award for European heritage.
