HKUD “Poculica” Letovanić

The folklore society HKUD “Poculica” Letovanić preserves the authentic folklore of Letovanić and the Turopolje, Posavina and Pokuplje area. The society was founded in 1975, while its tamburitza band has been playing since as early as 1970. Today it has around 50 active members in its dance, tamburitza and children’s sections and gives more than 20 performances a year across Croatia.

The society organises the Authentic Folklore Festival of Pokuplje, Posavina and Turopolje and the Children’s Folklore Festival in Letovanić, and its members regularly perform at folklore festivals, holiday events, Lekenik Municipality Day celebrations and other cultural events.

The association and local tradition

HKUD “Poculica” Letovanić (cultural and arts society) is based in the Municipality of Lekenik and is part of the rich cultural heritage of Turopolje, Posavina and Pokuplje. Cultural and arts societies and associations preserve folk costumes, songs, dances and customs and present them at festivals and folklore shows.

You can see local societies perform at events such as Jurjevo, the Days of Ban Jelačić and Postman Klempaj or Advent in Lekenik – check the dates in the events calendar, and read more about local traditions on the Cultural Heritage page.

The work of associations that cherish folk customs, song and dance also plays an important role in presenting Lekenik to visitors, and folklore groups often perform at events in the municipality. Folklore groups from all over Croatia are also brought together by the Croatian Cultural Council (Hrvatski sabor kulture).
