KUD “Preslica” Pešćenica
The folklore society KUD “Preslica” from Pešćenica was founded in 1981 and has been active again since 2005, with sections for singers, musicians and dancers as well as a drama group. Its members keep alive the folk songs, dances and customs of Turopolje and regularly take part in municipal, county and international folklore festivals. The society owns rich silk-embroidered folk costumes that are more than a hundred years old.
The society organises and hosts the “Ime Marijino” (Holy Name of Mary) celebration and the Christmas Concert in Pešćenica, and takes an active part in Lekenik Municipality Day programmes, holiday events, and carnival and Advent programmes, with a special focus on making traditional bouquets for Palm Sunday. In cooperation with RTL radio, the society has recorded an album of 18 songs.
The association and local tradition
KUD “Preslica” Pešćenica (cultural and arts society) is based in the Municipality of Lekenik and is part of the rich cultural heritage of Turopolje, Posavina and Pokuplje. Cultural and arts societies and associations preserve folk costumes, songs, dances and customs and present them at festivals and folklore shows.
You can see local societies perform at events such as Jurjevo, the Days of Ban Jelačić and Postman Klempaj or Advent in Lekenik – check the dates in the events calendar, and read more about local traditions on the Cultural Heritage page.
The work of associations that cherish folk customs, song and dance also plays an important role in presenting Lekenik to visitors, and folklore groups often perform at events in the municipality. Folklore groups from all over Croatia are also brought together by the Croatian Cultural Council (Hrvatski sabor kulture).
