Šumafest Cerje – autumn forest festival
Šumafest Cerje is a charming autumn event organised by the Lekenik Tourist Board and the local heritage society Zavičajno društvo Sveti Josip. It takes place in Cerje Letovaničko, a picturesque part of the municipality surrounded by forest and countryside. The festival is dedicated to the autumn fruits of the forest – chestnuts, truffles and mushrooms – and to community, learning and time spent together in nature.
The Šumafest programme includes organised gathering of chestnuts, truffles and wild mushrooms with expert guides, followed by a get-together for all participants; mushroom identification with educational explanations and a competition for the biggest mushroom; workshops for children and adults that encourage creativity and a connection with nature; and tastings of home-made produce such as roast chestnuts, mushroom stew cooked in a cauldron and other delicacies, accompanied by music and a cultural programme.
The event celebrates the wealth of local forest produce, treasured customs and good company among visitors of all ages, making Šumafest an ideal occasion for nature lovers, families and anyone who wants to experience the autumn idyll of the Turopolje region.
