KUD “Sv. Florijan” Poljana Lekenička

The folklore society KUD “Sv. Florijan” from Poljana Lekenička was founded in 2006 to preserve the old customs, songs and dances of the local area. Although small in number, its members play an active part in the cultural life of the municipality and perform at local events.

They take part in programmes for church holidays and Lekenik Municipality Day, in folklore festivals and in other social and cultural events in the municipality and the surrounding area.

The association and local tradition

KUD “Sv. Florijan” Poljana Lekenička (cultural and arts society) is based in the Municipality of Lekenik and is part of the rich cultural heritage of Turopolje, Posavina and Pokuplje. Cultural and arts societies and associations preserve folk costumes, songs, dances and customs and present them at festivals and folklore shows.

You can see local societies perform at events such as Jurjevo, the Days of Ban Jelačić and Postman Klempaj or Advent in Lekenik – check the dates in the events calendar, and read more about local traditions on the Cultural Heritage page.

The work of associations that cherish folk customs, song and dance also plays an important role in presenting Lekenik to visitors, and folklore groups often perform at events in the municipality. Folklore groups from all over Croatia are also brought together by the Croatian Cultural Council (Hrvatski sabor kulture).
